B24 is a 186ha farm run by a manager and three permanent team members.
Located on Illingworth Road, Te Pirita, 17km west of Dunsandel, the farm commenced production in the 2009/10 season.
B24 is named after the bomber planes which operated from the airfield developed on the farm in WW2.
The property is pivot irrigated, with a 40 bale herringbone cowshed, excellent housing and other infrastructure.
The farm is trialing a new system for Synlait Farms, managing all lower PW cows from the other Synlait farms. This herd uses Wagyu semen and sells 4 day old Wagyu calves, rather than retaining heifer replacement calves. These calves are reared for superior beef.
B24 supplies Synlait milk through the Grassfed supplier contract, which allows the farm to earn a premium over and above the base milk price. No grain or imported feeds can be fed as part of this farm system.
In the 2015/16 season, 520 cows produced 437 kgMS per cow.
