Waitai is a 343ha farm (303 effective ha) currently managed by a contract milker with four other permanent team members.

  • Waitai was converted in 2009 from a mixed cropping farm and is a spray irrigated property located close to the Pacific Ocean, 20km south of Ashburton in the Waterton area.
  • With a centrally-located 60 bale rotary dairy, three centre pivots draw water from shallow wells.
  • The paddocks are laid out to provide easy stock access and farm management - however the impermeable clay soils can be a challenge in early spring.
  • We have a team of 5 accommodated in four houses.
  • The farm will peak at 1060 cows calving from the 1st of August targeting 440,000kg milk solids with supplement in the form of grass and maize silage fed in early Spring and Autumn.

  •  In the 2016/17 season, 1067 cows produced 414 kgMS per cow
